SUMMARY In the course of deep weathering of a biotite gneiss, biotite is transformed into mixed‐layer biotite‐vermiculite hydrobiotite. Later biotite‐vermiculite is transformed into biotite‐chlorite under the action of hydrothermal solutions at the stage of epigenesis.
