Bacterial brown spot, caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae , caused epidemics on dry beans ( Phaseolus vulgaris ) on the Transvaal Highveld in South Africa during 1992. Crop losses of up to 55% were reported in plantings of the dry bean cultivar Bonus. The pathogen was detected in commercial seed stocks.
