Symptomless leaves of young wheat crops collected in January and February produced, after surface‐sterilization and incubation on an agar medium, perithecia typical of Leptosphaeria nodorum. Single‐ascospore cultures produced pycnidia typical of Septoria nodorum, whose conidia caused necrotic lesions to develop when sprayed on wheat seedlings.
