Celery infected with celery mosaic virus or parsnip yellow fleck virus contained the furanocoumarins angelicin, bergapten, psoralen, trimethylpsoralen and xanthotoxin in concentrations from 0.3 to 3.6 μg/g fresh mass. They were not detected in celery plants grown in aseptic culture, and only occasionally found in apparently healthy plants in the glasshouse.
