A new procedure to detect a low incidence of Ustilago nuda in seed barley

Partial enzymic digestion of extracted barley embryos enabled the mycelium of Ustilago nuda to be separated and collected on a nylon mesh filter. Mycelium from samples with less than 0.1% seeds infected was readily detectable. The procedure promises to be a new and sensitive routine method.
