Simple models of disease increase in time and space are developed by considering the rate of isopath movement (change in distance of a given level of disease in unit time) from a focal centre. Linear equations for simultaneously estimating parameters of temporal progress and spatial spread are derived for different types of epidemics. The uses of the models in estimation and interpretation are demonstrated by reference to published epidemic data.
