SUMMARY Medicago sativa L. cvs. Dupuits, Maris Phoenix, Maris Kabul and Sabilt were used to compare the pathogenicity of two isolates of Verticillium albo‐atrum Reinke & Berth. from the USA with two of European origin. The American isolates were much more virulent than those from Europe, causing disease in cvs. Maris Kabul and Sabilt which were previously regarded as resistant to V. albo‐atrum.
