SUMMARY Treatment of chrysanthemum cuttings, by dipping before planting or by spraying three weeks after planting, with diluted dicofol, Du Pont 1642, fenazaflor, formetanate,‘Pentac’ or quinomethionate reduced infestations of red spider mite ( Tetranychus urticae (Koch)) nine weeks after planting. Dicofol, Du Pont 1642, formetanate, quinomethionate or tetradifon applied just before flowering gave good control of mites, and dicofol, formetanate, quinomethionate and tetradifon gave almost complete kill of eggs. Fenazaflor, particularly as a dip, caused phytotoxicity.
