SUMMARY Observations on the diapausing behaviour of red spider mite ( Tetranychus urticae (Koch)) on glasshouse roses were made during the winters of 1969–70, 1970–71 and 1971–72 in a total of 11 glasshouses on six nurseries in Kent and Sussex. In one glasshouse no diapausing forms occurred but in another nearly all mites went into diapause. In the other glasshouses different proportions of diapausing and non‐diapausing forms occurred. On the three nurseries where tests were made diapausing mites were resistant to demeton‐S‐methyl. Diapausing behaviour was not apparently affected by different methods of growing roses.
