SUMMARY Damage to the leaves of sugar‐beet seedlings in eastern England by larvae of Pegomya betae (Curt.) was prevented or greatly decreased by drilling aldicarb, Dupont 1410, methomyl, ‘Mocap’ or pirimiphosmethyl at rates in the range 4–60 oz a.i./acre (280–4,204 g/ha) in the furrow with the seed.
