SUMMARY During observational trials on the control of the red spider mite, Tetranychus urticae , on strawberries by the predator Phytoseiulus persimilis in south‐west England in 1967–69 it was noticed that the strawberry mite, Steneotarsonemus pallidus , when present at the time of introduction of the predator, did not build up sufficiently to cause damage. It did, however, build up when the predator was not used. It is suggested that the predator could be used to control both red spider mite and strawberry mite on strawberries in the field in this part of England.
