SUMMARY Mevcuvy‐toltxaiai Pyrenophora avenae was present in samPles examined from all parts of England and Wales. Tolerant isolates were obtained from 32 of 123 winter oat samPles and 31 of 33 spring oat samPles, and the level of infection was less than 10 per cent in most winter oat, but averaged 28 per cent in the spring oat, samPles.
