SUMMARY An assessment method for spraing symptoms, caused by tobacco rattle virus in potato, tubers is described and illustrated. For the assessment of spraing, two figures are useful: the percentage of tubers affected and the proportion of quarter tubers affected in affected tubers. To determine this the tubers are quartered by cutting once longitudinally and once transversely. Any quarter not showing symptoms is then cut into small pieces to ensure that it is free from symptoms.
