SUMMARY Seed from potato crops in which verticillium wilt was widespread in 1967, when planted in 1968 produced only 7 per cent visibly infected plants although there was some indication that the percentage of symptomless infected plants might have been as high as 30 per cent. The pathogen in these observations was always Verticillium dahliae , and there is a need for further work on the provision of disease‐free stock and the interaction of this pathogen with pest and husbandry aspects of potato growing.
