SUMMARY The effect of various cultivations on populations of Agriolimax reticulatus (Müller), Arion hortensis Férussac and Milax budapestensis (Hazay) was assessed. Reduction in numbers of all species was obtained in three separate experiments. (1) The ground was ploughed once during winter (2) The soil was broken up into a fine tilth and firmly compacted; grass was then sown and kept at a height of 1 to 3 in. for three and a half months. (3) The soil was broken up into a fine tilth but not later compacted or sown with grass.
