SUMMARY Inoculation of narcissus with known numbers of Ditylenchus dipsaci in the last months of growth produces externally symptomless infested plants and bulbs. Variability of eelworm numbers in foliage and bulb is high and late‐season inoculation cannot be relied on to produce a uniformly infested bulb stock for experimental work. Eelworm numbers in the foliage fall when this dies; at this time eelworms probably emigrate into the soil from the foliage and bulb.
