The lateral styloconic sensillum on the galea of the eastern spruce budworm larva Choristoneura fumiferana Clem. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae) contains a cell which responds to sucrose. The electro‐physiologial threshold for response is below 0.5 mM sucrose. The K b for the response is 1.5 mM, and the V max is 200 impulses/s. The physiological data are interpreted with respect to the sucrose‐stimulated feeding behaviour of the larva.
