SUMMARY Schistosome glycans induce characteristic innate immune responses in the infected host. The molecular aspects of these responses, the pathways and receptors as well as the schistosome glycans and glycoconjugates involved, form an area of intense research. The relevant schistosome glycan elements and the possible mechanisms through which they act on the innate immune system are discussed in this review.
