Hind limb weakness occurred sporadically in a colony of guinea pigs. This was found to be associated with a severe myopathy. The myopathy was found to respond to a‐tocopherol administration. This was clearly demonstrated by a dramatic fall in CPK levels after treatment. The tissues of the animals and their pelleted food had very low contents of vitamins A and E.
