The value of Bam owl pellet analysis for monitoring elusive small mammal species is emphasized and the occurrence of Harvest mouse remains in Barn owl pellets is reviewed for the British Isles. It is suggested that, as a result of changes in agricultural practice, there have been significant changes in the habitat of both Harvest mouse and Barn owl such that neither common name is now strictly appropriate.
