Summary. Hepatotrophic viruses are responsible for a substantial proportion of cases of both end‐stage chronic liver disease and of acute liver failure which are treated by liver transplantation. We review here current practice in transplantation for viral‐induced liver disease addressing, in particular, the selection of patients for transplantation and the increasingly recognized problem of recurrent disease in liver grafts.
