Summary A total of 969 proximal contacts in forty volunteer subjects was examined for proximal contact integrity with shim stock. It passed uninhibited through 88% of the contacts. Neither sex nor age affected the evaluation; however, shim stock was more likely to pass through contacts with enamel surfaces than those which were restored.
