Surface features such as dislocations and monatomic steps have previously been imaged using reflection microscopy with conventional transmission electron microscopes. Here it is shown that similar features can be observed with a scanning transmission electron microscope by using phase contrast. Bragg contrast is very small unless a displaced aperture technique is employed.
