SUMMARY In length measurements on digitizer systems a considerable overestimation of the actual value can occur due to improper algorithms by as much as 41%. The effect of cursor speed on this phenomenon is discussed. Possible algorithms are presented to diminish the problem. We used a two‐way filtering algorithm with a practical error of between 0.1% and 0.4%.
