SUMMARY A technique is described which overcomes the problems associated with sectioning biological tissue containing hard mineral fibres. 0·2–0·5 μm thick sections were cut with a diamond knife, placed in a folding grid, conventionally stained with uranyl acetate and lead citrate and viewed at an accelerating voltage of 200 kV in the scanning transmission mode.
