SUMMARY A description is given of a system comprising a general purpose computer (PDP‐8E) and a special purpose computer controlling a flying‐spot microscope. Under program control, the system extracts data from a field of view on the microscope slide. Various operating features of the system are detailed and a general account is given of its design and construction. Experience of using the system is briefly discussed.
