SUMMARY The three‐dimensional structure of rust haustoria has been studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Rust infected leaves were fixed and embedded in Spurr's resin as for transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The cut surface of blocks containing embedded material was etched with sodium ethoxide and examined in the SEM.
