SUMMARY A method is given for either dark‐ or bright‐field electron microscopy of thin biological specimens (e.g. thin sections) for enhancing the image arising from elastic scattering, relative to the composite image formed by inelastic scattering. The method requires two micrographs of a given field taken at two particular conditions of image defocus.
