SUMMARY Field ion microscopy and computer graphics techniques have been utilized in studying the topography of a grain boundary in a W‐1wt%ThO 2 specimen. Perspective plots and Stereographic Pole Plots of the surface were obtained. An examination of the perspective plots of the boundary surface in conjunction with the Stereographic Pole Plot reveals a strong tendency towards periodicity in the grain boundary. Although no definite wavelength is noticed, an overall tendency towards periodicity is evident. Further the Stereographic Pole Plot indicates the nature of the inclinations in the grain boundary surface.
