SUMMARY A method has been developed, and a computer program written, to correct measurements of particle length and width for the effects of section thickness and swelling in the preparation of sectioned samples for transmission microscopy. The method is applied to the system of silver particles in gelatin, and the resulting calculated extinction spectra are compared with those observed and calculated without correction. Improved correlations show that the method is useful.
