Summary The vastly increased contrast made possible by tilted‐beam dark‐field electron microscopy enables strands of DNA prepared by the Kleinschmidt technique to be clearly imaged without the heavy‐metal staining or shadowing usually required. This technique is applicable over a wide range of magnifications and is easily accomplished with several commercial instruments.
