Fibrin is frequently deposited in tissues at sites of hæmorrhage and inflammation and I have made a survey of the changes which occur in the morphology and in the staining reactions of fibrin with the passage of time. It is common enough to encounter fibrin in pathological lesions, but accurate assessment of its age is surprisingly difficult; material containing fibrin of uncertain age was excluded from this study. Material used was obtained from cases of cerebral haemorrhage, ruptured kidney, healing surgical scars and healing puncture wounds of arteries in all of which consideration of the clinical history enabled an accurate “age” to be given to the fibrin.
