SYNOPSIS Some examples of the variety found in the micro‐crystalline form of the scale obtained by boiling natural waters. Preparation of solutions for experimental investigations. Types of micro‐crystals of calcium carbonate and comparison with crystals of calcite and aragonite, and with the crystals of ice found in snow. Influence of temperature and of dissolved carbon dioxide. Modifications resulting from the presence of small traces of silicates, chlorides and sulphates in water.
