SYNOPSIS The type specimens of Navicula maculosa Donkin and Navicula albinensis Grunow have been examined and the species are shown to be synonymous. Navicula maculosa Donkin in Peragallo, Diatomées marines de France, 1897–1908, is a misidentification and this species has been renamed.
