The purpose of this study was to determine the amount of selenium in serum of an Italian population of 143 subjects. Data suggest that an adequate amount of selenium is consumed in the diet, since the level of selenium concentration in the blood is normal (70.7 μ g/ 1), A correlation coefficient of 0.82 (p<0.001) between selenium concentration in blood and selenium content of the diet was found in a group of subjects in whom both variables were measured.
