. Gastrointestinal histopathology of the paddlefish, Polyodon spathula (Walbaum), infected with larval nematodes, Hysterothylacium dollfusi Schmidt, Leiby & Kritsky 1974, was studied. Larval H. dollfusi invaded the gastric mucosa and caused ulcers with accompanying infiltration of eosinophilic granulocytes. The deeper penetration into the stomach and intestine caused the formation of capsular granulation tissues around the worms. Larval worms were also histologicahy studied. The intestinal epithelium of larvae contained glycogen, haemosiderin and ceroid, indicating their blood‐feeding capability.
