The presence of lymphocytes in the epidermis of the rainbow trout, Salmo gairdneri Richardson, was confirmed by light and electron microscopical observation and by the use of an indirect immunocytochemical technique utilizing peroxidase‐labelled antibody. These results are compared with those of other workers and the source and function of these cells in the epidermis of teleosts is discussed.
