. The development of in vitro test techniques for use with fish parasitic fungi is described. Reasons for the selection of criteria to be met by these test methods are discussed using selected results from a wide‐scale test programme on fisheries fungicides. The need for test techniques to relate to the eventual environment in which chemotherapeutants will be used is stressed.
