. A histopathological description is given of the black gill disease in Kuruma prawn Penaeus japonicus. The inflammatory responses of P. japonicus against Fusarium solani are haemocytic infiltration, haemocytic encapsulation, melanization and collagen‐like fibre deposition. These responses are more pronounced in lesions in the exoskeleton than in the gill lamellae.
