This paper describes material presented to sixth‐form students, and their reactions to it. The material was specially designed to introduce the main principles of artificial intelligence, and to open up some of the practical issues involved in its use and development. The authors make tentative suggestions about the usefulness and importance of such work in the school curriculum. Further details of the work and results are available on request.
