The public expect that the health professionals who serve them have a deep sense of commitment to provide appropriate care. Professional values underlie this promise. These beliefs, apparent in a professions's code of ethics, should be evident in the oaths that are taken publicly by medical, nursing, and pharmacy students upon their graduation.
