Summary The effect of a legislation‐induced slowing of product turnover on the quality of some aspirin and phenacetin containing products is studied. A new reversed phase high pressure liquid chromatographic method for assaying salicylic acid in compound preparations is described and the results are discussed with reference to the U.K. compendial limit tests for salicylic acid in aspirin‐containing products. Comment is made on the calculation of the results.
