The rebuttal of our correspondence (Lehtonen et al. , Journal of Biogeography , 2011, 38, 805–808) by J. R. Grehan and J. H. Schwartz ( Journal of Biogeography , 2011, 38, 2397–2404) reveals logical inconsistencies in their methodology. Here, we provide a clarification of these issues.
