A fast‐growing Rhizobium strain was isolated from a stem nodule of Aeschynomene aspera and was characterized by standard laboratory tests, nodulation, nutritional and carbohydrate utilization patterns. Its relationship to other members of Rhizobium was studied by DNA homology tests which suggest it cannot be classified as any known species of Rhizobium .
