The potential value of resistotyping in the investigation of strain differences is illustrated by its application to Salmonella typhi . The method, although very demanding and prone to technical difficulties, is capable of yielding information about the identity of strains. In its present form the technique was shown to be able to characterize strains in such a manner that available epidemiological information was confirmed.
