The lipid and DNA base composition of Capnocytophaga ochracea, C. gingivalis, C. sputigena and some capnophilic clinical isolates were examined. The results of the study indicate that the genus Capnocytophaga (Leadbetter, Holt & Socransky) is a homogeneous taxon distinct from the genus Bacteroides.
