Three isolates of a Brevibacterium species isolated from human skin produced an antibiotic active against Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The active compound is most probably a peptide with’a molecular weight in the range 1100–1400; there is chromatographic similarity to compounds such as tyrothricin. Production of such a compound in vivo could contribute to microbial interaction in, for example, tinea pedis.
