S ummary . Pitting, spreading and domed colonies of strictly anaerobic and facultatively anaerobic strains of ‘corroding bacilli’were induced by varying the culture conditions. Colony form seemed to depend on 2 factors, the availability of certain nutrients and the condition of the bacteria at the time of inoculation.
