S ummary : In a study of pyocine typing of 274 strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from the same hospital, evidence of instability in 2 pyocine indicator strains and in the pyocine type of 19% of the isolates was found. An alternative approach to pyocine typing, using purified pyocine preparation, is suggested.
