S ummary : An actinomycete, closely resembling strains of Actinomadura madurae causing mycetoma, was isolated from a stream in South Africa. The organism was present in all water samples collected monthly for a year. It is considered to be indigenous in the stream because its population density was not influenced by water run‐off from the soil into the stream or by organic pollution.
